The Lea Tam Acupuncture Center was established in Boston in 1982 by husband and wife Lea Tam and Tom Tam, both Chinese immigrants who arrived in the United States to start a new life.
Lea Tam is an active acupuncturist in the clinic along with her son Bell Tam and daughter Yvonne Tam. All 3 holds certifications and licenses to practice acupuncture. Tom Tam is retired from acupuncture.
Bell and Yvonne are second generation acupuncturists who have served as apprentices in the clinic learning from both Tom and Lea from a very young age. Both Bell and Yvonne hold a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture.
Tom recently retired in 2013 after practicing acupuncture for 30 years to pursue teaching and writing about his healing expertise and experience
Today, our office is still located in Boston’s Chinatown and is one of the longest standing acupuncture clinics in Massachusetts. We also have offices in Quincy MA and Haverhill MA.
Tom has practiced acupuncture in the Boston area for over 30 years making him one of the earliest practitioners in Boston. Within his profound career, Tom has devoted his time and practice in helping others. His intuition, knowledge and experience in the healing arts led to the development of the Tom Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Healing Therapy. Tom has retired from acupuncture in 2013 to further his teachings and developments of Tong Ren Healing.
Lea is a graduate of the Guangzhou College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She emigrated to Boston in the early 80's and began her practice, becoming one of the first acupuncturists in the Chinatown area. She paved the way for the popularization of acupuncture in Boston as she and her husband's practice grew. Today, Lea is retired from acupuncture but her office and practice still remains a household name.
Bell has his license as an acupuncturist, but is also a wealth of knowledge in the field of tui na massage. He has had more than two decades of experience performing tui na, helping countless people achieve better health. Not only is Bell a healer and practitioner, he is also a teacher and a mentor. He holds education as one of the foundations of the work he does, helping his patients have a better understanding of their own bodies, about the science behind illness, and about how to take the skills he possess home with them so they can upkeep their own wellness, empowering those around him.
Since childhood, Yvonne has observed all the healing that surrounded her as she spent summers and afterschool hours at her parents' acupuncture clinic. Her interest was sparked as she saw success after success - of people who entered in pain and in fear but then left in disbelief as their ailments were alleviated. Yvonne has her Masters in Acupuncture and has more than 15 years of experience with tui na massage. She has taught Tong Ren Healing and the Tom Tam Healing System in the United States but also in France, Spain and England.
Bell and Yvonne are wonderful acupuncturists. I agree with what Siobhan M. said exactly - they are the best! Tom Tam and his family are true healers! They are a kind, generous family who only want to help and aid people. My immune system was very weak when I started getting acupuncture from them, and after just a couple of treatments, my immune system was so much better! Nothing is too serious for them to help.
Bell and Yvonne are great! I started visiting to help with my knee (torn meniscus) and to provide an overall boost to my immune system. With a focus on the spine, the sessions here involve both traditional acupuncture and massage. I've visit regularly for the healing treatments and to restore balance... and Bell and Yvonne's personalities make the sessions even better! I'd highly recommend them!
The high reviews for Lea Tam are well deserved. I came in after experiencing pain in my neck and chest area, which made it difficult for me to breathe. I had never done acupuncture before so I didn't know what to expect, but after Bell worked on me, all my pain was gone. They are nice, professional, and very effective. Will definitely come back and I highly recommend them.
My daughter has been going to Lea Tam Acupuncture for almost a year. They are all incredible and have helped my daughters headaches when western medicine has failed her. Everyone in the center is fantastic and caring. They are always on time and take a genuine interest in each and every person who walks through their door. We have met many people in the waiting room and their stories of healing are extraordinary. I have nothing but positive things to say and have told all my friends that Lea Tam Acupuncture is the only place to go.
Last night, I had an initial acupuncture treatment from Yvonne Tam, requesting help for anxiety and hypertension; and it was nothing short of amazing! Yvonne is lovely, sweet and kind, and cheerful and fun. I couldn't even feel the needles, either going in or staying in, and had only a slight discomfort in a shoulder where my muscles had been very tight for many years. Afterwards, I was so relaxed I can only compare it to feeling like a rag doll, or the way it feels after hours spent lying on a beautiful beach in perfect weather, times 10.
I am hooked! A dear friend recommended that I try Lea Tam Acupuncture Center for some health problems I was experiencing. I went once and immediately saw a change. I also suffer from severe scoliosis. Bell is absolutely wonderful and is working to heal my back! The Tam family is so warm and inviting and make the experience so wonderful. I look forward to my appointments each week and recommend that everyone give it a try!
